Social-media-weekSocial media goes on changing in ways that affect music marketing. Google+ continues to disappoint on the marketing side but is showing a wider range of positive effects on SEO. Facebook has extended its ranking of individual posts to page posts affecting what’s shown in fans’ News Feeds. Gmail’s new tabs may mean your email newsletter is categorized with more spam-like promotional email.

Google+ Affects SEO in Multiple Ways

Google+ is not yet a content sharing powerhouse but continues to have positive effects on search engine rankings.

In a post ostensibly about the “Amazing Correlation Between Google +1s and Higher Search Rankings,” Moz’s Cyrus Shepard goes into quite a bit of detail about Google+ benefits related to Google search results. He also makes recommendations for boosting one’s activities on Google+.

Note: Buffer has joined Hootsuite in offering posting to Google+ pages.

Facebook Page Post Quality Matters Even More

Recent changes in Facebook’s News Feed affecting individuals’ posts increased the emphasis on interaction in determining what gets featured at any given time.

Related News Feed changes for page posts have since rolled out emphasizing, yes, interaction and such factors as not hiding posts. Possible bumps ahead but one hopes this is good news for those who are actively interacting with fans and creating engaging content.

Gmail Promotions Tab: What Does It All Mean?

Gmail recently added tabs for email categories that separate “Primary” from such categories as “Social” and “Promotions.” Your beloved email newsletter might be showing up in “Promotions” which equals ads which equals spam.

Prescription PR suggests you let your fans know what’s up in multiple ways and “concentrate on creating great content.”

Copyblogger has some content suggestions for those who wish to “Survive Gmail’s New Promotions Tab.”
